Question priority can be upgraded with a premium feature. You can overwrite text characters or hex values by high-lighting and typing the replacement value but RegEdit doesn't allow you to use the copy or paste commands to change a highlighted section of hex or text values.

I want to make some substantial changes to binary values that hold pathnames which is rather impractical changing one character at a time especially as they are double-byte characters.

I'd like to create a new string in another program and then simply paste it into the registry key. Here's a vbScript example: I spiffed that VBScript up a bit.

I had thought of 'exporting' the key value using RegEdit but the hex values seperated by commas were not an option for manual editing. Your solution is a good one but is the equivalent of copying and then pasting back the WHOLE key value rather thana part of it.

I didn't make it clear in my original question but the key has a mixture of binary integers and dates as well as ascii characters. It would be important to only copy the the characters for editing and to paste just that portion copy and paste with binary data. However, your solution did get copy and paste with binary data thinking along the RegEdit export line again. Open file in text editor, preferably one with GREP capability.

Remove commas between hex values and copy to clipboard. Paste contents of clipboard as Unicode double byte characters assuming editor has capability. Copy or Save edited binary as text. Use text editor to put commas back between hex values. As you can see, it's really not worth it. The above description is just an outline and not an precise method. I've decided to increase the number of points from to and award you for your solution.
